Making statistics cool again!

As a former statistics student, I feel like a traitor writing and learning more about machine learning. Once I told my statistics professor that a lot of the younger folks on my team talk about logistic regression as a machine learning model. My professor said:

Every time someone says something like that, I feel something inside of me die a little bit.
